Musty odors are telltale signs of an infestation because mice urinate frequently. The urine of mice has strong odors that don't get away for some time.

Dark smears or marks as to where mice scratch their bodies against their regular routes and urine pillars or 2-inch tall and half-inch wide mounds which are mixtures of urine and body grease are also signs of infestation of mice.

Scratching noises you most frequently hear at night are signs of mouse activity because these creatures are most active at night.

Shredded paper or damage in other soft material that's easily torn apart by mice are signs of mice using them as nesting material and thus are also signs of mice activity.

Tracks or footprints you may observe the next day upon sprinkling talcum powder are signs that the mice frequent the area you placed the powder on. These may be observed directly in dusty areas as well.
