The September Revolution was a military coup initiated by Libyan youth officer Gaddafi’s "Freedom Officer Organization" led in 1969, overthrew the Idris dynasty, established a revolutionary regime headed by Gaddafi and established the Libyan Arab Republic. This coup was later called the "September Revolution" or the "Nation 1 Revolution." Before the Qaddafi regime was overthrown in 2011, on September 1st, people from all walks of life in Libya gathered in the green square in the center of Tripoli to hold a grand celebration to commemorate the victory of the revolution.
