Cockroach infestations can be a difficult problem to tackle, but you can use DIY baits in combination with commercial roach spray not to depend solely on it that need to be addressed without relying entirely on commercial sprays. A lightweight bait can just be prepared with boric acid plus some sort of food attractant like sugar, bread or peanut butter. The sweet smell attracts wood roaches, and the boric acid will work as a slow-acting poison that the pests will take back to the nest.
POSITION IS THE KEY TO A BAIT’S SUCCESS
Place baits in areas where cockroaches are likely to travel, such as behind appliances, under sinks, and along with the baseboards. Do not place baits where children or pets can get into and ingest the boric acid, which is of low toxicity but can be harmful if swallowed.
DIY baits work best when used in combination with good sanitation measures. To help reduce cockroaches, get rid of food crumbs, cleaning up grease, and drying any wet areas so your home is less appealing. Frequent monitoring and rebaiting will result in continued decrease of infestation with the passage of time.
