How to Keep Kitchens Clean to Prevent Cockroach Infestations

Cockroaches will infest your kitchen because of food, water and warmth. Prevention: Keeping the area clean is critical. Wipe down counter tops, sweep floors and clean crumbs and spills promptly to eliminate possible food sources. Underneath appliances and within cabinets where grease and crumbs can collect should be scrubbed clean on a regular basis.

Appropriate food storage is another important measure. Keep dry goods, snacks, and pet food in airtight containers, and don’t leave dirty dishes or leftover food out overnight. Avoiding accumulation of trash and keeping the garbage cans closed can also “minimize attractiveness.”

Finally, eliminate moisture and hiding places. Repair leaks under sinks, dry wet areas promptly and don’t allow clutter to accumulate on countertops or behind appliances. A clean, dry, organized kitchen is not conducive to cockroach living and is an environment that leads to consistent pest prevention.
