Why Mosquito Lotion Smells Good But Still Attracts Bugs

Scented body lotions are popular, but the scents that are so alluring to humans can also lure in pests. Sweet, floral and fruity scents replicate natural odors that attract mosquitoes -- think flowers and overripe fruit. Those scented lotions can potentially make you more attractive to mosquitoes when combined with body heat and carbon dioxide emissions.

This is not to say you should steer clear of all scented lotions. Opt for lightly scented or unscented products to minimize the mosquito attraction while still providing moisturizing benefits to the skin. Many lotions contain insect-repelling demulcents, so you can smell pretty without making yourself more of a mosquito target. The odors of the products you use in your beauty routine are also important to attracting those unwanted bites from the bloodsucking insects.

To stay covered, add a little to your other preventive measures. Use a bug spray on your skin, long-sleeve shirts during prime mosquito time (dawn and dusk) and don't let pests invade your home. Skincare that is conscious of odour combined with effective deterrents means that you can have comfort and style without forfeiting your safety.
